Job description

A growing fire and security organisation is looking for an experienced Fire Risk & Technical Manager to lead and expand their Fire Risk & Technical division.

This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of an already established business unit and develop it into a standalone consultancy offering. You'll inherit an existing team, manage specialist contractors, and play a key role in shaping the structure, processes and long-term direction of the division.

You will lead a team currently made up of Fire Door & Fire Stopping Surveyors and a Scheduler (4 reports), growing this to 8-10 people over the next 12-18 months.

You'll work closely with the Managing Director while also receiving a full handover and ongoing support from the existing division head.

This role suits someone who wants the freedom to build, improve and lead — not just maintain.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and grow the Fire Risk & Technical division, with strategic oversight of team structure, performance, and service delivery.
  • Lead, mentor and develop surveyors and future Fire Risk Assessors.
  • Support with Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs), fire door surveys, and fire stopping/compartmentation surveys when required for high-priority projects.
  • Oversee scheduling, reporting, resourcing and day‑to‑day operational management.
  • Manage third‑party contractors delivering FRA or surveying work on behalf of the business.
  • Identify gaps in current processes and implement improved procedures, QA frameworks and workflow systems.
  • Ensure high‑quality FRA outputs, compliance standards and client communication.
  • Contribute to the longer‑term development of services such as compartmentation drawings, FREW, and fire strategy reporting.
  • Act as the key point of contact for senior leadership, reporting directly to the MD.
About You
  • Strong background in Fire Risk Assessments with proven technical competency.
  • Experience as a Surveyor across fire doors and fire stopping/compartmentation desired.
  • Confident leading and developing teams within a fire safety or related technical environment.
  • Comfortable balancing strategic oversight with hands‑on operational management.
  • Able to work independently and make informed decisions without heavy direction.
  • Commercially aware with an understanding of service delivery, client needs and operational efficiency.
  • Exposure to commercial environments is ideal; multi‑sector knowledge is an advantage.
  • Any experience with FREW, fire strategy reporting or compartmentation drawings is highly beneficial.
