Our client is a prestigious and well-established institution based in West London, operating across a range of commercial and charitable activities. The organisation is entering an exciting phase of modernisation and development, with increasing complexity across its financial operations. As part of this evolution, the business is seeking a Financial Controller to strengthen its financial controls and lead the core technical functions.
Description
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of the organisation’s financial reporting, with particular emphasis on group VAT compliance and partial exemption. The role includes preparing consolidated statutory accounts, coordinating audits, overseeing restricted and trust funds, managing multiple subsidiary entities, and leading improvements in controls and reporting processes. The Financial Controller will also manage a small team responsible for financial accounting.
Skills
The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong post-qualified experience, especially in managing complex VAT matters, including partial exemption. Experience in preparing statutory accounts and leading audits is essential. A background in not-for-profit or hybrid organisations with commercial trading arms is advantageous. Strong leadership skills and the ability to engage with diverse finance and non-finance stakeholders are required.
