Aim of role
To own the end-to-end accounts receivable and credit control function, ensuring that all customer billing, receipts, allocations and collections are accurate, timely and well controlled, while actively managing customer credit risk and supporting strong cash flow for the business.
The role is critical in maintaining the integrity of debtor balances across both the auction system (RFC) and the finance system (SUN), and in supporting the auction settlement cycle and audit requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable
- Post and maintain customer invoices and related charges in SUN, based on auction results and operational data.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of customer balances.
- Allocate all customer receipts promptly and resolve unallocated cash.
- Maintain and control customer master data.
- Support AR close activities at month-end.
Credit Control & Collections
- Proactively manage aged debt and collection activity across all customers.
- Contact customers by email and phone to secure payment in line with agreed terms.
- Maintain clear and accurate collection notes.
- Escalate high-risk, disputed or overdue balances to the Finance Manager and CFO.
- Support the review of credit limits and payment terms with management.
Systems Debtors Reconciliation (Critical Control)
- Prepare the monthly reconciliation between:
- debtor balances in the Auction system
- the accounts receivable control account in Finance system.
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items.
- Liaise with auction operations and client services to resolve discrepancies and disputes.
Cash & Banking Support
- Support bank reconciliation processes relating to customer receipts.
- Ensure customer receipts are correctly reflected in the AR ledger.
- Provide accurate information on expected collections to support cash forecasting.
Month-End & Audit Support
- Prepare debtor schedules, ageing reports and supporting documentation.
- Support external audit requests relating to debtors, revenue and receipts.
- Maintain clear audit trails and working papers.
Process & Control Improvement
- Identify and recommend improvements to AR and credit control processes.
- Support the implementation of automated invoice approval and document management processes.
- Follow defined internal controls and segregation of duties.
Candidate Profile
Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience in a combined accounts receivable and credit control role.
- Experience in a business with complex billing or settlement processes (auction, professional services, logistics, or similar).
- Experience working with an operational system alongside a finance system is highly desirable.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong practical knowledge of accounts receivable and credit control processes.
- Proven experience preparing debtor and control account reconciliations.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Ability to analyse and reconcile data between two systems (sub-ledger and general ledger).
- Good understanding of revenue recognition, receipts and cut-off principles.

Salary £30,000-£35,000
