Job description

At Manchester United, we believe that excellence on the pitch starts with excellence off the pitch. Our team thrives in a high-performance environment, united by a shared passion for success. We aim to elevate the standard of performance through collaboration and continuous growth, creating a space where everyone can contribute their best to our common goals.

We work together at our iconic Manchester United offices, enabling connection and innovation as we look ahead to what we can achieve as a global football club. We are excited to bring in passionate people who share our vision and drive for success.

The Role:

We’re looking for a finance professional to take ownership of our retail and ecommerce financial operations. You’ll work closely with teams across the business to ensure accurate reporting, strong commercial insight, and seamless financial management in one of the club’s most dynamic and fast-moving areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations for our ecommerce platforms, including financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Manage all retail departmental P&Ls, including month-end close, weekly forecasting, annual budgeting, and long-term strategic planning.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure efficient coordination between finance, inventory, and sales functions.
  • Provide key financial support to the Direct-to-Consumer Commercial team, contributing to short- and long-term planning and capital expenditure projects.
  • Deliver clear financial insights to help the business make informed, data-driven decisions.
  • Lead the preparation of year-end Retail accounts and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with SOx and internal controls across retail operations.
  • Own the annual Value In Kind process.
  • Carry out any other duties or projects as directed by the Head of Finance – Commercial & Retail.

The Person:

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification with post-qualification experience.
  • Previous experience in ecommerce and/or retail industries.
  • Solid understanding of ecommerce systems, financial data, metrics, and KPIs.
  • Proven expertise in management accounts within a digital or ecommerce setting.
  • Advanced Excel skills; Power BI knowledge is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • High level of commercial acumen.
  • Clear and confident communicator — written and verbal — with experience liaising across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to quickly build positive relationships with both finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Collaborative mindset — comfortable leading projects and working cross-functionally.
  • A proactive approach with the confidence to challenge the status quo.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent time management, with the ability to identify priorities, opportunities, and risks.
  • A positive, energetic attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Resilience under pressure and a calm, organised approach to tight deadlines.
  • Adaptability — comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment.
  • Sports club experience is preferred but not essential.
