Job summary

NatCen is recruiting Field Interviewers in Preston to conduct in-home research interviews across an assigned area. You will visit participants’ homes, guide conversations, and record responses using NatCen devices.

This part-time, travel-based role emphasizes listening, reliability and independent fieldwork. You’ll receive thorough training, travel time compensation, mileage reimbursement, and the potential for bonuses within the first year.

Qualifications

• No prior research experience required; you can build trust, listen carefully and represent NatCen professionally.
• Requires a full UK driving license and access to a car.
• Willingness to complete a DBS check.
• Minimum 20 hours availability per week.
• Travel is a key part of the role; travel times typically 30–60 minutes each way with potential longer journeys and occasional overnight stays; paid travel time and mileage reimbursement.

Responsibilities

• Visit selected addresses across an assigned area to carry out in-home interviews.
• Guide conversations and digitally capture responses using a NatCen device.
• Ensure interviews are conducted in a respectful, professional and confidential manner.
• Work independently with route planning support and regular check-ins with a field manager.
• Be flexible to work across weekdays, evenings and weekends to match participant availability.
