Job summary

National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) in Carlisle is seeking a part-time Field Interviewer to visit homes across a defined area and conduct in-person interviews on health, housing, transport and public services. You won’t sell anything – you’ll listen and record experiences using a NatCen device.

This travel-based role requires warmth, reliability and the ability to work evenings or weekends. A full UK driving license and access to a car are preferred; training is provided and travel time

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Ability to listen carefully and record information accurately.
• Reliable and organised with flexibility to travel and work irregular hours.

Responsibilities

• Visit selected addresses across an assigned area to conduct in-home interviews.
• Use a NatCen device to guide structured interviews and record responses.
• Travel within your defined fieldwork area and manage time effectively.
• Support interview scheduling, ensure participant comfort, and maintain data quality.
