Job summary

Herefordshire Council is seeking a dedicated Family Support Worker (Multi-Disciplinary) to join the Families First programme in Hereford. This permanent, 30-hour post offers a pro rata salary range of £26,853–£30,456 per annum, with opportunities to lead assessments, plan family interventions and coordinate multi-agency support across homes, schools and communities.

You will write Family Help Assessments, chair review meetings, deliver parenting programmes and ensure timely, joined-up support

Qualifications

• You hold a Level 4 qualification (or above) in a relevant field and are committed to ongoing professional development.
• Experience with children, young people and families, including lone working.
• Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and coordinate multi-agency support.
• Confidence in using evidence-based approaches such as motivational interviewing or solution-focused practice.
• Ability to chair multi-agency meetings and produce high-quality assessments and reports.
• Strong communication, organisational and IT skills; capable of working independently or in teams.
• Willingness to travel across the county and work evenings/weekends when required.

Responsibilities

• Work 1:1 with children, young people and families using evidence-based approaches to build resilience.
• Complete Family Help Assessments (including Section 17) and develop SMART plans.
• Lead Family Help review meetings and coordinate multi‑agency interventions.
• Write Family Help Assessments and reports; maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Deliver parenting programmes and engage family networks to access education and services.

Education

Level 4 qualification or above in health, education, child development, youth work or social care
