Job summary

Kempston Academy in Bedford is seeking a passionate Facilities Assistant to support the Facilities Manager in the maintenance, care and upkeep of the school’s buildings, grounds and facilities, including basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs. The role covers opening and closing the site, implementing security procedures, and acting as a designated key holder.

This appointment requires an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references; full training and induction are provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist Facilities Manager with maintenance, care and upkeep of buildings and grounds.
• Carry out electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs as required.
• Open/close premises and follow site security procedures.
• Act as designated key holder for the school.
• DBS check and safeguarding compliance.

Facilities Assistant

Location: Kempston Academy, Bedford

Contract: Permanent

Hours of Work: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Salary: Level 3 Point 6-8

Closing Date: Wednesday 30th September 2026 at 9am

We are looking to appoint a passionate and skilled Facilities Assistant to directly support and assist the Facilities Manager in all areas of the general maintenance, care and upkeep of the school’s buildings, grounds and facilities. You will also need to be able to carry out electrical, plumbing, carpentry and other general repairs around the school site as required.

The role will involve the opening and closing of Trust premises and main site security procedures including alarm systems and ensuring all doors & windows are secured and all lights & heaters are switched off and act as a designated key holder for the school as directed.
