Job summary

JLL in Birmingham is seeking a Fabric Engineer/Maintenance Operative to join our retail maintenance team at Bullring. The role covers planned and reactive maintenance across painting, joinery, and light building work, with on-site supervision duties and on-call responsibilities.

You'll update PPM tasks, assist subcontractors, maintain records, and respond to emergencies outside normal hours, including work at height and safe tool handling.

• Inspect services and proactively manage call-outs/repairs
• Attend site emergencies outside normal working hours
• Work at high level using platforms and ladders
• Maintain company-issued tools in safe, serviceable condition

Fabric Engineer/ Maintenance Operative

Location: Bullring, Birmingham

Job Type: Fulltime

Shift type: Rotational (On call rota basis)

Shift timing: 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM and 11:00 - 8:00 PM

Core Responsibilities:

• Planned and reactive maintenance: painting, joinery, minor building repairs
• Update completed PPM tasks on computerised maintenance system
• Assist specialist subcontractors with PPM and reactive works
• Maintain accurate site records and documentation
• Inspect services and proactively manage call-outs/repairs
• Attend site emergencies outside normal working hours

Essential Requirements:

• City & Guilds / NVQ in Carpentry, Joinery, Construction & Building
• Previous team working experience
• Customer service skills
• Competent knowledge of building fabric: joinery, painting, small building works

Key Conditions:

• Must reside near Bullring Birmingham (available for call-out)
• The incumbent will be required to adopt a flexible approach to working hours to suit the needs of the retail sector. This will require work at weekends and in the evenings and the salary has been set to reflect this.
