Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC seeks a Battery Controls Engineer to develop and optimize embedded software for the ERS team, focusing on real-time control and battery management within Formula 1 hybrid powertrains.

You will implement algorithms for protection, SOC, and SOH, work with CAN/Ethernet interfaces, MiL/SiL/HiL testing, and contribute to a cohesive hardware-software ecosystem across controls and electrical hardware.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or related discipline; OR Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of embedded software experience.
• Expertise in battery management systems and control algorithms (protection/derating, SOC, SOH).
• Familiarity with high voltage systems, CAN/CAN FD, Ethernet, SPI/I2C, UART, and RTOS.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain embedded software for HV battery management and related components.
• Implement real-time control algorithms for battery protection and energy management.
• Perform MiL/SiL/HiL testing, trackside support, and develop automated tests.
• Ensure code quality, safety, and regulatory alignment; document software artefacts.
