Job summary

A leading educational publisher is seeking AS Level Physics Examiners to mark candidates’ responses based on a predefined mark scheme. This role allows for flexible marking, which can be done from home. Candidates must have at least one year of teaching experience in AS/A Level Physics, a relevant degree, and the ability to work under pressure. The position offers a unique opportunity to influence educational standards during the busy marking period from May to July.

Qualifications

• At least one academic year's worth of teaching experience within the last 8 years.
• Degree (or equivalent) in Physics.
• Experience teaching AS/A Level Physics if degree is in another subject.

Job description

AS Level Physics (New Specification) Examiner marks candidates’ responses in accordance with the pre-defined mark scheme, whilst adhering to conditions of recognition and examination procedures. The experience of examining will offer an insight into the assessment process and can often consequently enhance the quality of your teaching Most subjects will be marked onscreen using ePEN, which can be done from home. A few subjects are still marked in the traditional method, using paper scripts sent through the post. A good level of subject knowledge at AS/ A Level is necessary to apply the mark scheme effectively. Each examiner will receive an agreed allocation of scripts.

Responsibilities

• To mark accurately and consistently to ensure overall standards are maintained
• To submit samples to your Team Leader at designated times
• To ensure milestones for marking are adhered to
• To ensure all administration is completed as specified

Experience/qualifications needed

• You will have at least one academic year's worth of teaching experience:
• a. within the last 8 years
• b. at the required knowledge equivalent to AS/ A Level
• c. since qualifying as a teacher

• You will have a degree (or equivalent) in Physics or a closely related subject

If your degree is in a different subject, you must have at least 3 years of experience teaching AS/ A Level Physics.

• You will be a qualified teacher

OR

• You have at least one academic year's worth of teaching experience
• You are a retired teacher with extensive experience and valuable expertise
• You have a degree (or equivalent)
• You are a qualified teacher

Competencies required

• You will have the ability to work well under pressure
• You will have the ability to meet deadlines
• You will have a high level of subject knowledge in order to apply the mark scheme

Additional information

• The marking period is between May - July.
• The training required to mark as an examiner will take place between May and June.
