Job description

A Vacancy at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust wishes to appoint an enthusiastic, outstanding clinical fellow to join our busy Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology (EPAG) service at this exciting time for the Trust.

We are looking to appoint one candidate to commence on 1st April 2026 (maternity cover). The successful candidate will hold a 12-month post.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team comprising consultants in acute gynaecology, clinical nurse specialists, registered nurses, healthcare assistants and a unit administrator/receptionist to provide specialist care to the population of North West London and neighbouring areas. The post will be based at the Chelsea & Westminster site.

The post holder will contribute, after tailored training, to the provision of first‑class emergency gynaecology care through a one‑stop clinical model complemented by high‑quality gynaecological ultrasound and endoscopic surgical expertise. The successful candidate will also support the recurrent miscarriage and 2‑week‑wait service, and contribute to the early pregnancy/emergency gynaecology scan and assessment service at weekends. Participation in the junior registrar on‑call rota at weekends may be required. This post provides an ideal out‑of‑programme‑experience (OOPE) opportunity to launch a portfolio of specialist training in gynaecological ultrasound. At the end of 12 months, the post‑holder can expect to attain ultrasound skills equivalent to the RCOG intermediate level in early pregnancy and acute gynaecology and showcase completed projects at national and international conferences.

Core responsibilities and duties:

  • Provide first‑class emergency gynaecology care via a one‑stop model, including ultrasound and endoscopic surgical expertise.
  • Support recurrent miscarriage and 2‑week‑wait services.
  • Contribute to early pregnancy/emergency gynaecology scan and assessment services on weekends.
  • Participate in junior registrar on‑call rota at weekends if required.
  • Develop a portfolio of specialist gynaecological ultrasound training (OOPE).
  • Attain RCOG intermediate‑level ultrasound skills in early pregnancy and acute gynaecology within 12 months.
  • Coordinate Emergency Gynaecology MDT meetings.
  • Develop clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Train and support junior doctors.
  • Contribute to departmental research within the Trust’s R&D framework and aim for publication.
  • Participate in the Clinical Audit Programme and Quality Improvement Projects (QIP).
  • Observe Trust rules, policies, procedures, and standards, and maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information.
  • Commit to personal development and contribute to colleague development.

Working hours: Primarily 9 am‑5 pm (variable) with weekend (Saturday and Sunday) clinics and possible out‑of‑hours Gynaecology and Obstetrics SPR rota participation.

The appointment will be on a scale equivalent to an appropriate ST level and carries an annual leave entitlement of 32 days (including statutory days) on a pro‑rated basis.
