Environmental Health Officer - Food Safety

Salary: Band G - I, £32,061 - £41,771 (dependent on skills, experience and qualifications)

One permanent post.

Hours:

Band G Student EHO – working hours will be negotiated with a minimum of 18.5 hours per week to be agreed on appointment.

Band H and I – Full‑time, 37 hours per week.

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is expanding its Food Safety team and welcomes applications from:

  • Students currently undertaking an ystod Environmental Health degree or master’s (Band G)
  • Graduates who have completed an Environmental Health degree and are working towards professional registration (Band H)
  • < встанов>Fully Qualified Environmental Health Officers with CIEH registration (Band I)
About the role:

You’ll support or lead the delivery of food safety functions, including:

  • Inspections, audits, sampling, and advisory visits
  • Investigating offences and supporting enforcement action
  • Providing regulatory advice and guidance to businesses and residents
  • Contributing to projects aimed at prevention and early intervention
What we’re looking for:

Band G (Student):

Currently enrolled on a CIEH‑recognised Environmental Health degree/master’s.

Passed at least two years of study and committed to completing your qualification, supplementing it with hands‑on work experience.

Able to agree a minimum 18.5 hours per week contact with the aim of increasing post‑graduation (pay will be pro‑rata of the grade).

Band H (Graduate):

Degree/master’s in Environmental Health (CIEH‑recognised).

Commitment to completing your professional portfolio and achieving full CIEH registration with support from our service.

Band I (Qualified and Registered):

Degree in Environmental Health and Certificate of Registration with Environmental Health Registration Board.

Demonstrable experience in food safety regulation.

Skills across all levels:

  • Strong communication and customer care skills
  • Ability to work flexibly and travel across the Borough
  • Commitment to safeguarding and high professional standards
