Job summary

M Group is seeking an Environmental Advisor to support capital project delivery in the water and wastewater sector. You will provide environmental guidance across large capital programmes, ensuring contractor work aligns with standards and legislation.

The role covers environmental planning, risk management, and performance monitoring, with responsibilities for surveys, inspections, and site controls. Hybrid working is available after probation, with opportunities for training and career

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an Environmental Advisor in a construction environment, ideally within utilities.
  • A recognised environmental qualification, preferably degree-level, and IEMA membership (or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting environmental surveys, design mitigation, and coordinating environmental and ecological specialists
  • Knowledge of UK environmental legislation and construction best practice
  • Experience carrying out audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Understanding of waste management and pollution prevention controls
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; self-motivation, teamwork, negotiation skills, and confidence to present, work independently, prioritise workloads, and travel when required
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • A valid UK driving licence and the willingness to obtain further training including National Water Hygiene qualifications (training provided)

Responsibilities

  • Provide supportive environmental guidance across capital construction projects, helping contractors deliver work responsibly and in line with our standards.
  • Assist with duties as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer, while reviewing and monitoring contractor performance to ensure strong environmental compliance.
  • Play an active role in environmental planning, risk management, and project mobilisation, as well as supporting surveys, inspections, permitting, and the implementation of site controls and management plans.
  • Help drive effective waste management, duty‑of‑care compliance, and resource‑efficiency initiatives.
  • Carry out audits and assurance checks, attend coordination and restart meetings, and support investigations into incidents, near misses, and non‑conformances.
  • Identify corrective and preventative actions, and report monthly environmental data and KPIs to support governance and continuous improvement.
  • Promote positive environmental behaviours and help ensure compliance with legislation, company standards, and regulatory commitments.

This role will be within our water and wastewater capital project delivery team. Our teams deliver large-scale capital programmes aimed at keeping water infrastructure resilient for the long-term, while protecting the environment.

What you'll be doing?

What you'll bring?
