Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment LTD. is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to support students at a Birmingham-area school.

The role focuses on vulnerable young people with a range of needs, promoting positive behaviours and resilience to improve engagement in lessons. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team to create a safe, supportive environment and help students develop coping strategies for emotional and social challenges.

Qualifications

• Has a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
• Demonstrates patience, empathy, resilience and strong communication skills.
• Is confident managing challenging behaviour and supporting students with a range of needs.
• Can build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.
• Takes a proactive, flexible and consistent approach.
• Has experience in behaviour support, mentoring, youth work, pastoral care or a similar role. Candidates with transferable experience are encouraged to apply, including those from care, youth work, sports coaching, psychology or other support-based backgrounds

Responsibilities

• Providing one-to-one and small-group support for students with behavioural, emotional and social needs.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with students from vulnerable backgrounds.
• Supporting students to manage their emotions, regulate their behaviour and develop effective coping strategies.
• Helping students engage with lessons, follow school routines and access learning.
• Implementing behaviour management strategies and promoting positive choices.
• De-escalating challenging situations calmly and professionally.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team.
• Creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where students feel valued and understood.
