Job summary

Progeny is seeking a Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales with solid employment law experience to join our team. You will manage a varied, non-contentious caseload for both employer and individual clients, delivering practical, commercial advice and high-quality documentation.

You will draft and negotiate employment contracts, policies and settlement agreements, while supporting business development and cross-disciplinary work across the firm.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales with experience in employment law.
  • Experience managing a varied employment law caseload.
  • Strong drafting, research and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of non-contentious employment matters with supervision where required.
  • Advise employers on day-to-day HR and employment law issues (disciplinary, capability, absence, discrimination, TUPE, redundancy).
  • Advise individual clients on settlement agreements and contractual disputes.
  • Draft, review and negotiate employment contracts, policies, handbooks and settlement agreements.
  • Support clients through Employment Tribunal proceedings, including pleadings and witness statements.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with both employer and individual clients, advising on a broad range of non-contentious employment matters. You'll manage your own caseload, build strong client relationships, and provide commercially focused advice that helps clients navigate complex workplace issues with confidence. Working closely with colleagues across the business, you'll also play a key role in supporting business development initiatives and contributing to the continued growth of the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a varied caseload of non-contentious employment matters with appropriate supervision where required.
  • Advise employers on day-to-day HR and employment law issues, including disciplinary and grievance procedures, capability, absence management, discrimination, whistleblowing, TUPE, redundancy, and employment status.
  • Advise individual clients on settlement agreements, unfair dismissal, discrimination claims, restrictive covenants, and contractual disputes.
  • Draft, review and negotiate employment contracts, service agreements, policies, staff handbooks, settlement agreements, and related documentation.
  • Support clients through Employment Tribunal proceedings, including drafting pleadings, witness statements and disclosure, preparing bundles, and attending hearings where appropriate.
  • Deliver practical and commercially focused advice tailored to each clients’ objectives and risk appetite.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional service and responsive communication.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the business on corporate transactions, restructures, and other cross-disciplinary work.
  • Contribute to business development by attending networking events, preparing articles and legal updates, delivering training sessions, and identifying opportunities for new work.
  • Maintain accurate time recording, billing, and case management in accordance with Progeny procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, professional standards, and the risk management policies.

Essential criteria
  • Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales with experience in employment law.
  • Experience managing a varied employment law caseload.
  • Working knowledge of Employment Tribunal procedures.
  • Experience drafting employment documentation and providing practical legal advice.
  • Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of clients’ business needs.
  • Ability to work independently while recognising when supervision or support is required.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience advising both employers and individuals.
  • Exposure to commercial / corporate employment work.
  • Experience delivering client training or seminars.
