Job summary

British Red Cross in Swansea is seeking a dedicated Support Worker for the Emergency Department to provide practical and emotional support to patients, relatives and staff. Based in a hospital setting, you will help deliver comfort, clarity and kindness during moments of crisis.

You will assist with mealtimes and comfort items, offer one-to-one support for patients with dementia or distress, provide bereavement support, and help arrange safe discharge and follow-ups.

Qualifications

• Confidence working in a busy hospital environment.
• Caring, calm approach with strong communication.
• Ability to assess needs, follow support plans and work independently.
• Natural ability to build trust and reassure people in distress.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with mealtimes and comfort items like blankets or pillows.
• Provide one-to-one support for patients with dementia, confusion or distress.
• Offer bereavement support and signpost to further services.
• Help patients return home safely, including transport and follow-ups.
