Job Description Summary

GE Vernova’s Power Conversion & Storage (PCS) business delivers critical electrification systems for high‑performance, efficient maritime and defence applications, enabling energy efficiency, capability availability and decarbonisation through advanced electrical power systems. The Marine Power Test Facility (MPTF) is the only commercial land‑based facility capable of full‑scale testing of integrated naval power and propulsion systems up to 20 MW.

Job Description

The MPTF Systems Engineering team solves complex problems using analytical tools to validate safe, efficient and operational solutions. As a Systems Engineer you will design, specify, install and commission dedicated test‑beds, manage test operations and analyse data to support the delivery of leading‑edge power system solutions, providing a technical interface to the customer.

In this role you will:

  • Work on unique power system design and test facilities that support major UK infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, third‑party stakeholders and multidisciplinary teammates to drive engineering excellence.
  • Perform power system studies and analysis with simulation software such as MATLAB, DigSilent, eTAP, PSCAD or PSSE.
  • Generate equipment specifications, functional and test documents for LV/HV switchboards, generators, cables, power electronics, converters, transformers, motors, auxiliaries, etc., for AC and DC architectures.
  • Ensure designs comply with health & safety, international standards and relevant regulations.
  • Produce clear engineering documentation, manage review cycles and host technical meetings.
  • Provide technical input for commissioning and contribute to testing operations.
  • Analyse multi‑source data and prepare validation and verification reports.
We are looking for a professional engineer who
  • Has transferable equipment or systems level knowledge and, preferably, industrial marine or naval defence domain experience.
  • Is comfortable in multidisciplinary teams integrating electrical, mechanical and fluid systems.
  • Is initiative‑driven, problem‑solving, ambitious, motivated and embraces a lean mindset.
  • Approaches the design and implementation of test platforms pragmatically.
  • Has working knowledge of marine classification society IEC, MIL or DEF standards.
  • Has demonstrable expertise in power‑system modelling, generator excitation systems or power‑electronics machines and drives (PEMD).
  • Exhibits strong attention to detail.
Qualification Requirements
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject (experience is beneficial).
  • UK national status and eligibility to obtain or hold an SC‑level UK security clearance.
  • Currently pursuing or holding a CEng qualification.
