Job summary

SSE plc is recruiting an Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering Team. The role involves delivering electrical design for substations and balance of plant, supporting major renewables projects across the UK, Ireland and Europe, and contributing to the technical integrity of the project lifecycle.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams, drive safety and quality, and help implement new technologies and best practices to improve asset performance and project delivery.

Qualifications

• A degree in Electrical Engineering and working towards Chartered Engineer status or professional registration, with relevant industry experience.
• Experience in renewable energy, wind, electricity transmission, distribution or complex infrastructure, with exposure to substations and primary plant.
• Good understanding of engineering standards, legislation and best practices for electrical infrastructure and substation design.
• Awareness of commercial, technical and operational factors that influence project delivery and engineering decisions.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project locations.

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of electrical engineering design activities, including technical specifications and contract documentation for substations and EBP packages.
• Prepare and update technical documentation for substations, wind turbines and associated equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and quality requirements.
• Participate in FATs and SATs, supporting verification and commissioning of major electrical systems.
• Coordinate engineering activities with project teams, contractors and suppliers to resolve technical issues.
• Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement across the Electrical Engineering function.
