Commercial and Contracts Manager (EGL1 & EGL4)

Edinburgh Park

Salary up to £86,500 per annum (D.O.E) plus up to 20% annual bonus, car allowance (£450pcm) and family healthcare cover.

SP Energy Networks (SPEN) will be delivering over £10 bn of investment in the GB electricity grid over the next 5 years. A significant proportion of this investment is associated with Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) and Eastern Green Link 4 (EGL4), high voltage direct current (HVDC) links between Scotland and England. EGL1 links Torness (Scotland) and Hawthorn Pit (England); EGL4 links Westfield (Scotland) and Walpole (England). These projects, in partnership with National Grid Energy Networks, will enable transmission of up to 4GW of electricity, enough to power over 4 million homes.

The roles of Commercial and Contract Managers will be part of a multidisciplinary team managing these projects. There are 2 positions, each dedicated to one of the links. Responsibilities include managing contractual interfaces with contractors, coordinating with various teams, and ensuring project delivery.

The positions may require frequent travel across the UK and occasional travel within Europe. Candidates should be prepared to manage teams at different locations.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead contract and commercial management activities with support from QS, legal, and project teams.
  • Establish and maintain strong contractual relationships, advise on procurement strategies.
  • Coordinate with legal experts on contract awareness.
  • Handle formal contract communications, claims, and disputes.
  • Support reporting and project oversight.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and KPIs with EPC contractors.
  • Identify lessons learned and implement improvements.
  • Provide guidance on contract management to business users and QS teams.
  • Influence project teams to focus on contractual matters.
  • Conduct monthly project reviews for risk mitigation.
  • Coordinate project workload and resources.
  • Collaborate with management to address escalated contractual issues.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience in major infrastructure construction contracts.
  • Legal experience or close collaboration with legal experts.
  • Claims and dispute management experience.
  • Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Contract management experience, preferably with FIDIC Silver Book.
  • Leadership experience managing QS and contract teams.
  • Knowledge of governance, control, and risk frameworks.
  • Supply chain development and management experience.
  • Strong influencing, interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of electricity network regulations.
