Are you a natural problem solver with an inquisitive mind? The Home Office is hiring Immigration Enforcement Caseworkers within two of its business areas: National Returns Progression Command (NRPC) and Foreign National Offenders (FNO) Returns Commands. This role is a perfect fit for those who enjoy reading and processing information at pace to form decisions and arguments. Your quick thinking skills, attention to detail and exceptional customer service will help you make informed and fair decisions.

In NRPC, we progress the cases of people who have had their applications refused or rejected by the Home Office. We also oversee the removal or repatriation of foreign nationals who have no basis of stay in the UK.

In FNO, we consider the deportation of foreign nationals who have been convicted of a criminal offence in the UK and we ensure removal action is taken against those who have no basis of stay within the country.

You will be supported, coached and mentored by an experienced team and given full training enabling you to make considered, timely and fair decisions made in line with Home Office policy, guidance and with reference to relevant information. You will manage your caseload through the relevant processes, taking timely and accurate action and dealing with each person in accordance with our policies.

We are looking for the following skills and qualities:

  • Objective and analytical thinking – assess complex information from a variety of sources to draw conclusions.
  • Making confident, high-quality recommendations based on the available evidence and in line with guidance, rules and the law.
  • Good decision maker – confident to set out the evidence and explain your reasoning, whilst maintaining professionalism and sensitivity.
  • Strong communication skills – effective written and verbal communication skills that are persuasive, attentive and using plain language.
  • Team Player – works productively as part of a team to achieve own and shared outcomes, motivating and encouraging individuals to deliver results.
  • Able to effectively organise and plan.
  • Able to demonstrate sound interpersonal and relationship-building skills and thrive working as part of a team and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Customer focused – enjoy dealing with members of the public and working collaboratively and professionally with other teams and external and internal stakeholders
  • Flexibility to manage your own workload to meet deadlines and balance conflicting priorities – able to react and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Confident with IT – able to learn how to use different software platforms/packages.

Some of the roles have line management responsibility, where you’ll be required to manage the workflow of an operational team and lead staff to provide the best possible service to our customers and stakeholders.

Benefits
You’ll benefit from a starting salary of £25,750 or £29,750, depending on your location. We also offer a Civil Service Pension with employer contribution rates of at least 26.6%, flexible working and 25 days annual leave on appointment, rising with service.

Training and development
You’ll receive full training combining both online classroom and practical on-the-job experience to help you achieve your best and grow in your career. After your training you’ll be supported by a mentor too.

We have a continuous learning culture and you will be encouraged to undertake training activities in line with your skills and career aspirations.
