About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional to lead and shape the HR function in a busy academic department. The HR Manager oversees the HR services of the School of Archaeology, ensuring good practice across the School. Responsibilities include recruitment and selection, managing contracts, staff onboarding and offboarding, employee relations, training and development, managing changes related to diversity, providing advice to managers, and handling HR issues related to employment law and immigration regulations.

Reporting to and working closely with the Head of Administration and Finance, and the Head of School, the HR Manager collaborates with the School’s professional services team. This is a full-time secondment role until 28 February 2026.

About You

We’re looking for an efficient and solutions-driven professional with:

  • A degree or equivalent professional experience
  • HR experience with the ability to manage an efficient HR operation in a complex organization
  • Sound judgment in HR matters with the ability to provide persuasive and effective advice
  • Professional, tactful, discreet, and approachable demeanor
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence and persuade managers
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders
