Job description

Driver (HGV)

Based at Hanslope Park, Milton Keynes with European travel

£25,811 plus location allowance of £1,750 and excellent benefits

Reliable, cool‑headed, security conscious and a great time manager – as an HGV driver you’re all these things and more. And when you join us here at FCDO Services you’ll be using your skills, knowledge and expertise on a vital global mission.

At FCDO Services, we protect the UK’s interests at home and overseas. We design and construct secure government buildings, courier diplomatic packages worldwide, safeguard government tech, and a whole lot more. Our work is as varied and vital as it gets, but we never lose sight of our people. Their skills, aspirations and growth mean as much as the mission we're on. In our world, it all matters.

The success of a government project can depend on secure, timely shipments and our Logistics team always deliver the goods. From dedicated drivers to King's Messengers, they deliver to more than 250 destinations worldwide, moving over a million kilograms of freight annually across land, air and sea. Now, you have the opportunity to join them.

Deliver consignments and success on an international stage

Our work is truly international. And the professional and courteous approach you take to your customers, and ability to understand their requests and offer alternative solutions if needed will make you a genuine ambassador for our organisation. Your work will involve packing, bagging, loading and unloading, as well as the basic maintenance of your vehicle, and you should also be ready to work as a member of a double crew. This will involve prolonged periods of time on overseas trips, sleeping in your HGV and ensuring the security and integrity of your load at all times. It goes without saying that you’ll be committed to complying with UK and European traffic and parking regulations, and ready to follow all the necessary guidelines while maintaining a safe working environment.

Apply all your driving, communication and customer skills

You’ll be a natural communicator and enjoy working with other people. But you’ll also be capable of working on your own, ready to use your initiative and happy to take a flexible approach to your working hours. With a relevant driving licence and no more than 3 penalty points, a CPC (DCPC) qualification and a digital tacho card, you’ll have good knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to driving in the UK and European countries, and the skills to drive a variety of different vehicles. We use some high‑tech internal systems, so it would be a bonus if you’re computer literate, and if you don’t already have the qualifications necessary to drive on airfields, you should be prepared to undertake training to do this.

Discover the support you need to grow your career further

You’ll be working for one of the oldest and most reliable courier services in the world. But we’re always looking to improve – just like you. That’s why when you join us, expect to receive a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement and a Civil Service Pension. Along with this, you’ll also have access to training and other development opportunities to help grow your career with us. Our offices have an on‑site gym, nursery, café, and restaurant, and we offer interest‑free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. It's a great set of benefits made to support all you do, and all you need.
