Job summary

Brook Street in Leicester is seeking a Domestic Abuse Refuge Practitioner to provide practical and emotional support to women and children affected by domestic abuse. The role offers 25 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 9:00am-2:00pm, with a focus on safeguarding, advocacy and coordinating with housing and social care services.

The successful candidate will have experience with vulnerable groups, knowledge of domestic abuse and safeguarding, and fluency in English with an additional BAME language.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting vulnerable women, children or families.
• Experience within domestic abuse, refuge, supported housing or social care.
• Good knowledge of domestic abuse and safeguarding.
• Strong risk assessment and advocacy skills.
• Understanding of professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Good communication and record-keeping skills.
• A compassionate, culturally sensitive and non-judgmental approach.
• Fluent English plus at least one additional BAME community language.
• Enhanced DBS or willingness to undertake one.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one practical and emotional support.
• Complete referrals, needs assessments and risk assessments.
• Develop and review individual support and safety plans.
• Support residents with housing, benefits, budgeting and accessing services.
• Provide advocacy and support with appointments and external agencies.
• Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns.
• Work with Social Care, MARAC, housing and healthcare professionals.
• Support move-on accommodation and resettlement.
• Maintain confidential case records.

Leicester | £17,030 per annum | 25 hours per week
Monday to Friday | 9:00am - 2:00pm | Part-Time

Are you passionate about supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse?

We are recruiting an experienced and compassionate Domestic Abuse Refuge Practitioner to join a specialist service in Leicester.

You will provide practical, emotional and culturally sensitive support to women and their children who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse, helping them to remain safe, rebuild their confidence and move towards greater independence.

The Role

• Provide one-to-one practical and emotional support
• Complete referrals, needs assessments and risk assessments
• Develop and review individual support and safety plans
• Support women with housing, benefits, budgeting and accessing services
• Provide advocacy and support with appointments and external agencies
• Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns
• Work closely with Social Care, MARAC, housing, healthcare and other professionals
• Support residents with move-on accommodation and resettlement
• Maintain accurate and confidential case records

What We're Looking For

Knowledge of honour-based violence, forced marriage, FGM and No Recourse to Public Funds would be advantageous.

Essential Language Requirement

Due to the needs of the women accessing the service, applicants must be fluent in English and able to speak at least one additional BAME community language.

Due to the nature of the service and the support provided to female service users, this position requires a female practitioner.
