Job summary

Brook Street in Leicester is seeking a Domestic Abuse Refuge Practitioner for a 20-hour/week role, paying £13,624 per annum. The post runs Sunday to Wednesday, 8:30am–1:30pm, and supports women and their children who are experiencing domestic abuse.

You will provide practical and emotional support, complete referrals and risk assessments, assist with housing, benefits and services, advocate with external agencies, and maintain confidential records.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting vulnerable women, children or families.
• Knowledge of domestic abuse and safeguarding.
• Experience within refuge, supported housing, social care or a similar service.
• Fluent English and at least one additional BAME language.
• Enhanced DBS or willingness to undertake one.

Domestic Abuse Refuge Practitioner

We are recruiting a compassionate and experienced Domestic Abuse Refuge Practitioner to join a specialist service in Leicester, supporting women and their children who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse.

You will provide practical, emotional and culturally sensitive support, helping women to remain safe, rebuild their confidence and work towards greater independence.

The Role

• Provide one-to-one practical and emotional support
• Complete referrals, risk assessments and support plans
• Support women with housing, benefits, budgeting and accessing services
• Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns
• Provide advocacy and liaise with external agencies
• Work alongside Social Care, MARAC, housing and healthcare professionals

About You

You will need:

• Experience supporting vulnerable women, children or families
• Knowledge of domestic abuse and safeguarding
• Experience within refuge, supported housing, social care or a similar service
• Strong risk assessment and advocacy skills
• Good communication and record-keeping skills
• Fluent English plus at least one additional BAME community language
• Enhanced DBS or willingness to undertake one

Knowledge of honour-based violence, forced marriage, FGM and No Recourse to Public Funds would be advantageous.
