Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a Design Technology Teacher in Newcastle to cover a long-term maternity leave from 1st October 2026 to 31st August 2027. The role focuses on delivering engaging practical and theory lessons, developing pupils' design thinking and technical skills.

The successful candidate will have QTS with a Design Technology specialism, strong subject knowledge, and a proven ability to manage classrooms and foster creativity and independence.

Job Title: Design Technology Teacher
Location: Newcastle
Start Date: 1st October 2026
Salary: £160 - £220 per day

The department has an ambitious and creative culture, with a strong focus on developing pupils creativity, craftsmanship, resilience and academic achievement.

The school is looking to take on a Design Technology Teacher on a long-term maternity cover basis from 1st October 2026 until 31st August 2027, subject to the return of the postholder. The successful Design Technology Teacher will deliver engaging practical and theory lessons, using strong subject knowledge to develop pupils design thinking, technical expertise, problem-solving skills and ability to create, evaluate and refine their work.

The successful Design Technology Teacher will have:

• QTS with a Design Technology specialism
• Strong Design Technology subject knowledge
• Experience delivering engaging and challenging Design Technology lessons
• Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
• The ability to encourage creativity, independence and attention to detail
• An enthusiastic, committed and creative approach to teaching
