Job summary

TeacherActive is working with a successful secondary school in Newcastle to recruit a Design Technology Teacher on a long-term maternity cover from 1st October 2026 until 31st August 2027.

You will deliver practical and theory lessons, using solid subject knowledge to foster pupils’ design thinking, technical skills and problem-solving abilities, while maintaining high standards of behaviour and engagement.

Qualifications

• QTS with a Design Technology specialism and strong subject knowledge.
• Experience delivering engaging and challenging Design Technology lessons.
• Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.

Job Title: Design Technology Teacher

Location: Newcastle

Start Date: 1st October 2026

Salary: £160 - £220 per day

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a successful secondary school in Newcastle with a thriving and increasingly popular Design Technology department. The department has an ambitious and creative culture, with a strong focus on developing pupils’ creativity, craftsmanship, resilience and academic achievement.

The school is looking to take on a Design Technology Teacher on a long-term maternity cover basis from 1st October 2026 until 31st August 2027, subject to the return of the postholder. The successful Design Technology Teacher will deliver engaging practical and theory lessons, using strong subject knowledge to develop pupils’ design thinking, technical expertise, problem-solving skills and ability to create, evaluate and refine their work.

The successful Design Technology Teacher will have:

• QTS with a Design Technology specialism
• Strong Design Technology subject knowledge
• Experience delivering engaging and challenging Design Technology lessons
• Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
• The ability to encourage creativity, independence and attention to detail
• An enthusiastic, committed and creative approach to teaching
