We are currently looking for a Design Manager in Birmingham. To lead and manage the development and delivery of all design aspects of a project. Manage design consultants and processes on one or more projects over £10m or on two projects under £10m.

- Oversee the setup and collation of all O&M documents and H&S Files.

- Manage Document Controllers on site.
- The Business
- Achieve commercial advantages and/or business opportunities, focusing on the value added to the role.
- Optimize results and meet or exceed goals related to financial, productivity, relationship, or quality metrics.
- Sourcing potential opportunities and managing associated risks.
- Protect RED's interests by assessing and controlling risks.
- Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability
- Oversee the setup of sustainability processes including BREEAM and other accreditations.
- Ensure CR and sustainability targets are understood by the project team.
- Coordinate communication with the client regarding reporting and key decisions.
- Manage consultant appointments, scope of services, and design programs.
- Focus on exceeding customer expectations through effective communication.
- Pre-construction
- Manage design during tender processes and contract phases.
- Conduct design audits, assess risks, identify missing elements and opportunities.
- Manage design teams and subcontractors during PCSA.
- Finalize all consultant appointments and provide pre-construction advice as needed.
- Requirements
- Lead and manage all design aspects of projects, including setting up systems and tools.
- Manage design meetings, issue resolution, and document control systems.
- Develop and manage schedules, responsibilities, and procurement processes.
- Review design information for compliance, buildability, cost control, and change management.
- Manage design change controls and ensure high standards of finish.
- Coordinate with the client and statutory authorities for approvals.
- Mentor site staff in design management.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting on design progress.
- Understand and communicate the Employer's Requirements.
- Manage documentation for Practical Completion.
- Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
- Background in design, construction, and delivery processes, including design management.
- Knowledge of design principles and project delivery experience.
- Commercial and financial acumen to contribute to value enhancement.
- Understanding of construction methodology, process, and sequence.
- Ability to interpret and communicate design documents.
- Experience coordinating design issues among various project elements.
- Degree-level education in Engineering, Building, Design Management, or related fields.
- Professional memberships such as CIOB, RICS, CIBSE, or similar.
- SMSTS or equivalent safety certification.
- CSCS card.
