Job summary

Dorothy House Hospice Care is seeking a Deputy Shop Manager for the Wicker Hill Store in Trowbridge. This part‑time role (13.5 hours per week, Saturdays and Sundays) offers £12.83 per hour plus an annual bonus.

You will work with the Shop Manager to run a busy charity shop, create a welcoming environment for customers and donors, support and motivate volunteers, and help with recruitment and training. No retail or charity experience is required, just a passion for people and a readiness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Shop Manager in the day-to-day running of the shop and creating a warm, welcoming environment for customers and donors.
  • Acting as a customer champion, using initiative and continuous improvement to deliver the best possible retail experience.
  • Helping to deliver high standards across both the shop floor and backstage areas, supporting volunteers to ensure every shopper has a positive experience.
  • Supporting, motivating and engaging our volunteer team, helping them to feel confident, valued and well supported.
  • Assisting with the training of volunteers, ensuring they are equipped to prepare goods for sale, provide excellent customer service, and uphold high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Assisting with the sorting, pricing and presentation of donated stock to create an appealing shopping environment.
  • Deputising for the Shop Manager when required, ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the shop.
  • Supporting the recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers.

DEPUTY SHOP MANAGER | £12.83 per hour + annual bonus

ABOUT YOU

This role is physically demanding and requires regular lifting, moving stock, and being on your feet for extended periods. While full manual handling training will be provided and we commit to considering reasonable adjustments, applicants should be aware that the core duties of this role require a high level of physical activity.

Desirable requirements:
