Decontamination & Domestic Services Manager

Are you an experienced Healthcare Decontamination managerloooking to develop your career at senior level in the North East?

The opportunity has arisen to join Synchronicity Care Limited(SCL) as the Decontamination & Domestic Services Manager. The post holderwill be responsible for ensuring the provision of effective, efficient andcompliant decontamination and domestic services across all County Durham andDarlington NHS Foundation Trust sites.

The successful candidate will support the Director ofFacilities to provide direct leadership and support for all decontamination anddomestic services across CDDFT, ensuring there are robust systems and processesin place to improve patient safety and deliver the required outcomes.

Main duties of the job

Thesuccessful candidate will have a proven track record within Healthcare Decontaminationservices management or in a related clinical or medical services role, with abroad depth of relevant transferable experience and will be able to apply theirknowledge effectively to provide professional, scientific, technical andoverall management of decontamination and domestic services activities.

CDD Services offers its own Terms and Conditions of employment which differ to the national NHS Terms and Conditions. As an employee in the company you will benefit from:

Bank work is offered on an 'as and when' basis with no guaranteed hours and will be paid on a pro-rata hourly rate for hours worked only.

Job responsibilities

Main duties of the role:

Responsible for providing visible leadership in coordinatingthe effective management of decontamination of reusable medical devices, andhigh quality professional cleaning services, delivered by various departmentsacross CDDFT.

Accountable for the operational performance of all staffengaged in the delivery of specialised decontamination and domestic services,and for the standards and quality of the services and all products provided bythose services.

Accountable for theeffective management of the organisational budget for all decontamination anddomestic services, within the prescribed budgetary limits, ensuring compliancewith the Trusts Standing Financial Instructions.

Working with the Director of Facilities to identify andsupport the development of strategies and processes relating to decontaminationand domestic services, that enable the service delivery teams to optimizeperformance and strategic growth, whilst delivering robust and compliantactivities, and ensuring a customer-centred approach.

Understand and support staff in the full range ofdecontamination and domestic duties, taking responsibility for providing a safeworking environment which is conducive to operational requirements and thewellbeing of staff, and creates a climate which both encourages teamwork andmaximises individual potential.

Responsible for overseeing and developing all processes,procedures and work instructions relating to the specialised decontamination& domestic services, including business continuity and contingencyplanning, in conjunction with the service managers, ensuring they are embeddedinto all aspects of the designated services on all sites, and are regularlyreviewed.

Adopt a strategic approach to the continued development ofspecialised decontamination and domestic services, embracing qualityimprovement processes and the management of any changes necessary to achieveorganisational objectives.

Manage the development and implementation ofeffective internal performance monitoring processes, to ensure continual reviewand to identify and address shortcomings, e.g. supervisory audits, PLACE liteaudits, training and competency checks etc.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • - Nationally recognised decontamination qualification
  • - Successful completion of operational management training courses in decontamination, including SSD Supervisors/ Managers, and/or Management of flexible endoscope decontamination (to NHS guidance)
  • - Relevant knowledge, skills and management experience to degree level
  • - Evidence of continuous professional development
  • - Qualified as authorised User (Decontamination) Equipment Management as defined in NHS Guidance
  • - Full membership of Institute of Decontamination Sciences
  • - IDSc National Certificate
Experience
  • - Significant experience of managing Sterile Services or equivalent sector management
  • - Previous employment and experience in a relevant discipline in a healthcare setting
  • - Track record of achieving high service standards and delivering objectives
  • - Cost control and budgetary management
  • - Skilled in effective business planning to meet future national and local strategic requirements
  • - Understanding and experience of recognised quality management systems
  • - Experience of successfully leading and developing teams
  • - Previous Customer Care Experience
  • - Experience with working closely with senior managerial, consultant, nursing, medical and all other Trust, professional and other national organisations
  • Previous Sterile Services or NHS experience.
Special Skills & Knowledge
  • - Specialist knowledge across the full range of working decontamination procedures and practices
  • - High level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from decontamination failure
  • - Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, national and international standards, professional and other guidelines, including MDA/MHRA safety documents, National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021, Health Technical Memoranda, European Norms and EC Directives (e.g. M H&S at Work etc.)
  • - Extensive knowledge of the techniques employed to measure the performance and safety of services
  • - Thorough understanding of current decontamination and domestic services practises and processes
  • - Understanding of NHS systems and factors impacting on the NHS
  • - Understands the fundamentals of data quality, data protection and confidential use of patient information
  • Knowledge of data protection.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety and PPE.
  • Evidence of using technical equipment.
