Job description

We are collaborating with a prominent IT consultancy that is seeking Service Design Consultants to join their expanding team. Candidates must have experience in Government Digital Services (GDS) and either possess SC Clearance or be eligible for it.

Salary: up to £55,000 per annum + Additional Benefits

Location: Remote with occasional client visits

Candidates must be eligible for SC Clearance or have live SC Clearance.

As a Service Designer, you will:
  1. Maximise the value delivered for clients from inception to real-life application of Service Design.
  2. Support clients through the end-to-end service design process to design and develop innovative products and services, from ideation and inception through to solution build and testing.
  3. Champion user-centricity with a set of tools and methods to embed design thinking and user-centred approaches.
  4. Work on new ideas and collaborate with solution teams to design and develop innovative products and services.
  5. Use current and emerging trends to identify and lead improvements to existing services, as well as introduce innovative and industry-first service experiences.
  6. Influence service managers, user researchers, UI/UX designers, and programme directors to understand the value of user-focused transformation.
Additionally, you will have opportunities to contribute to business and personal growth through:
  1. Business Development – Contributing to proposals, RFPs, bids, proposition development, client pitches, and event hosting.
  2. Internal Contribution – Engaging in campaign development, think-tanks, whitepapers, practice development (operations, recruitment, team events & activities), and offering development.
  3. Learning & Development – Pursuing training and certifications to support career development and company skill demands.
Your Profile

You will bring the following skills and experience:

  1. Proven experience working across a service design process with minimal support.
  2. Experience working with Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards and applying GDS design principles.
  3. Ability to create service design artefacts and outputs, such as current and future-state user journeys, personas, service concepts, service blueprints, and other related deliverables.
  4. Ability to identify potential accessibility barriers for complex user groups.
  5. Experience facilitating workshops, design sprints, ideation sessions, or similar activities.
  6. Ability to visualise complex services in an easy-to-understand format for varying audiences.
  7. A curious and inquisitive mindset with a passion for asking ‘why.’
  8. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex challenges in fast-paced environments.
  9. Experience working in agile (scrum) environments within cross-functional teams that include user researchers, UX/UI designers, business analysts, product owners, delivery managers, and developers.
  10. Ability to manage competing priorities within tight timeframes with a proactive mindset.
  11. Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to balance competing views as part of the design process.
  12. Aptitude for advocating user-centricity, with the ability to develop and translate user stories and propose design approaches or services to meet these needs.
  13. Eligibility for SC (Security Check) Clearance (must have been a UK resident for at least 3 years without leaving the country for more than 6 consecutive months during this period).
