Job summary

Booker, the UK’s leading food and drink wholesaler, is seeking a Debt Collector to join the Finance team in Deeside. The role focuses on proactive debt recovery, negotiating repayment plans, and processing payments to support timely cash collection.

Your day-to-day includes handling customer queries, coordinating with colleagues and preparing period-end debt reports, while maintaining high standards of service and supporting the wider team to minimise ageing debt.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in debt collections or credit control.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Positive, persistent and proactive attitude.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise.
• Ability to work under pressure and use initiative.
• Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Collaborative team player.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of legal debt recovery procedures is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Proactively chasing outstanding debt via telephone, email, letters and text.
• Negotiating repayment plans with customers.
• Processing payments through the online system.
• Handling customer and branch queries with high service levels.
• Deciding when to refer cases for legal action and liaising with Legal team.
• Conducting daily diary calls and managing workload.
• Preparing period-end reports, reconciliations and bad debt information.
• Reconciling Bad Debt General Ledger accounts at period end.
• Supporting the wider Debt Collection team and covering holidays.
• Collaborating with Finance and Operations to reduce ageing debt and legal costs.
