Day Operative

Salary/Hourly Rate: £32,000 per annum

Hours: 40 Hours per week

Location & Postcode: Lostock EFW Plant, CW9 7ZR

As a Day Operative at FCC Environment, you will be responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the main tipping hall, weighbridge and stores at the Lostock EFW plant. You will also be responsible for offloading consumables that arrive by HGV Tanker. You will operate heavy plant machinery (front loader), overhead cranes, forklift trucks, and other site machinery, ensuring traffic management and environmental compliance at all times. This is a full-time position, working XX days per week.

What will you be doing?
  • Operating heavy plant machinery including front loader, overhead cranes, road sweeper, and forklift. (training provided)
  • Ensure safe and efficient traffic management on site
  • Carry out risk assessments and ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Acting as a Competent Person under FCC Safety Rules within defined competence
  • Induct visitors to site safety and emergency procedures
  • Maintain housekeeping and assist with front-line maintenance tasks
  • Record and report accidents, incidents, and environmental impacts
  • Work as part of a motivated team, contributing to decision-making and team spirit
  • Complete relevant reports and assist with internal/external reporting
  • Participate in team briefings and ensure effective shift handovers
  • Champion site Environment and Health and Safety initiatives
What are we looking for?
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes, front loader machinery, forklift trucks, and weighbridge (training provided)
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Familiarity with computer applications
  • Willingness and ability to operate flexibly across a range of work areas
  • Strong drive, resilience, and commitment to meeting objectives
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised
  • Affable, flexible personality with excellent work ethic and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to visit other FCC sites for training where required
  • Completion of relevant training (IOSH Health & Safety, Duty of Care, vehicle licenses) is desirable
