Job summary

Bruntwood’s Afflecks venue in Manchester is recruiting a part-time Customer & Facilities Team Member for a 30-hour rota. You’ll handle maintenance, cleaning, security, and customer service duties to support traders and visitors in a busy indoor market.

You’ll work in a vibrant environment, contributing to high standards of presentation and safety, with opportunities to assist events and merchandise sales while acting as an ambassador for Afflecks’ independent traders.

Qualifications

• Experience in a maintenance-focused role (building maintenance, cleaning, decorating).
• Team player who can collaborate in a small team.
• Strong communication skills with traders and customers.
• Knowledge of security/loss prevention in a retail or similar environment.
• Flexible attitude to shifts and rota across a busy venue.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high standards of presentation around entrances, common areas, stairs, lifts and toilets.
• Open and lock up the venue as required.
• Perform day-to-day maintenance and cleaning tasks; respond to issues promptly.
• Place orders using company systems and log reactive works.
• Assist traders with communications and operational issues; escalate major issues.
• Ensure safety and security of the building in line with H&S regulations.
• Respond to incidents and report suspicious activity to the manager.
• Answer queries via phone, email or in person; support with Afflecks merchandise sales and events.
• Be a passionate ambassador for Afflecks and its independent businesses.

This role is advertised for 30 hours/week worked Monday to Sunday on a flexible rota (you’ll get 4 weeks notice on which shift pattern you’ll be doing).
You'll be working in Afflecks , our iconic indoor market home to up to 70 incredible small, independent traders, designers, makers, creators and retailers of all kinds.
The building is a busy, vibrant environment in the centre of Manchester. Afflecks is one of the most visited locations in the city with thousands of local people, students and tourists entering its doors each week - every day is different and fast paced.

Job purpose:

The Customer & Facilities Team Member carries out customer service, maintenance and caretaker duties to uphold the highest standards as part of our service to our traders and customers.

What you'll be doing:

• Maintain high standards of presentation around the entrance and surrounding grounds to the venue as well as all common parts including staircases, lifts, toilets and corridors
• Open and lock up of venue where required
• Completing day-to-day maintenance and cleaning tasks, reacting quickly to resolve any building or standards issues throughout the day
• Placing orders using company systems
• Logging calls for reactive works using company systems
• Assisting trader partners with communications and operational issues and escalating any major issues to the Retail Operations Manager
• Undertaking required tasks to comply with H&S regulations, spending your day continually monitoring the building to ensure the safety and security of all company property
• Responding and dealing with any occurrences, incidents and reporting any suspicious activity to the manager
• Answering customer and trader queries and resolving problems via phone, email and in-person
• Supporting with sales of Afflecks merchandise, and assisting with events & activations where reuqired
• Be a passionate ambassador for Afflecks and it's independent businesses

What are we looking for:

• Experience in a maintenance focussed role, such as: building maintenance, cleaning, painting/decorating
• Ideally have previous experience within a similar structure e.g. retail, hospitality, building services
• Understand the benefits and challenges of small businesses/independent traders, and be a champion of indie shopping
• Knowledge of general security/loss prevention techniques in a retail or similar environment
• A team player, committed to collaborating and supporting each other in a small team
• Great communication skills, able to work with a diverse range of personalities and manage relationships with traders and customers well
