If you’re a natural people-person – someone who enjoys solving problems and learning new skills – this customer-facing role will fit perfectly around your life.

We have 6 positions available for, Customer Engineer (x4) and Specialist Engineer (x2).

As our Customer Engineer and Specialist Engineer, you’ll partner in the field and virtually with a Technical Delivery Advisor from our Manchester Mobile Centre. Your primary focus will be to fault find and fix assets called …(click to see what we mean), mainly located in large towns, cities, stadiums, and train stations.

These hubs are modern digital screen units that reinvent the iconic public phone box for the digital age!

What makes them modern and high tech? With over 900 street hubs in high-footfall areas, millions pass by daily. They feature calling and Wi-Fi capabilities, display commercial and community content on 75-inch screens, and are touch-enabled for local information, navigation, and charging ports.

When not fixing Street Hubs, you’ll think on your feet—working solo on RAN sites to boost 4G/5G network performance or maintaining traditional Payphone kiosks.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Street Hub assets: install, set up, optimise, and repair.
  • Payphone Kiosks: repair faults, change glass, perform maintenance.
  • RAN (Radio Access Network): network fixes, cabling, health checks, alarm interrogation, activation, with support from our Manchester Mobile Centre.
  • HM Prison Service: repair phones, work in pairs, security clearance required.
  • Conduct Wi-Fi and mobile signal surveys, recommend and install access points.

For our Specialist Engineer role, additional responsibilities include:

  • Technical tasks: configuration, diagnostics, cabling; electrical qualification or willingness to complete 18th edition C&G standards.
  • Field work: site installations, repairs, in-life changes, problem-solving, stakeholder coordination.
  • Safety: ensure safety of public and colleagues.
  • Customer interaction: excellent communication and empathy skills.

Check out our Engineer page for a day-in-the-life video.

Must-haves:

  • A valid UK manual driving licence and willingness to travel (~90 minutes).
  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • No technical experience needed for Customer Engineer; customer service, problem-solving, and learning mindset valued. Relevant skills prioritized if applications exceed volume.

What we provide:

Daily schedule, uniform, laptop, mobile, van, and in-house training including NRSWA, PASMA, IPAF, and development towards 18th Edition C&G standards.

Specialist Engineers will attend and pass the 18th Edition course.

Role benefits:

  • Salary: £30,458 (Customer Engineer), up to £33,331 (Specialist Engineer after qualification).
  • BT Pension scheme with contributions.
  • 22 days’ annual leave + 8 bank holidays.
  • Family leave, health support, private GP, carer’s leave, training, career development, share schemes, discounts.
