Job summary

Novus is recruiting a Construction Teacher to join our prison education team at HMP Risley. You will lead hands-on sessions in health and safety, carpentry, brickwork, or plumbing, helping learners build practical trade skills and achieve their potential in a supportive environment.

This permanent, full-time role offers 37 hours per week and the chance to contribute to workforce development within a secure setting, with a strong focus on safeguarding and positive outcomes for learners.

Qualifications

• Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification - or demonstrate a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
• Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
• Have relevant industry experience and/or qualifications (i.e. Bricklaying, Plastering, Joinery, Carpentry)
• Achieve performance and quality targets
• Produce accurate and timely reporting
• Demonstrate positive team working
• Have experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups
• Have experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities.
• Have experience successful working in an effective multi-disciplinary team
• Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
• A good track record achieving of quality targets

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Risley, working as a Construction Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Risley is a Category C Male prison, located in the Risely area of Warrington, Cheshire. The teams' aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison's mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.
