Job summary

Novus, the prison education provider within the LTE Group, is seeking a Construction Teacher for HMP Risley. The role is permanent and full-time, 37 hours per week, delivering hands-on sessions in trades like carpentry and brickwork to support rehabilitation and skill-building within a Category C male prison.

Applicants should hold teaching qualifications and a Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy credential, with relevant trade experience.

Qualifications

  • Hold a teaching qualification.
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Have relevant industry experience and/or qualifications (i.e. Bricklaying, Plastering, Joinery, Carpentry).
  • Achieve performance and quality targets.
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting.
  • Demonstrate positive team working.
  • Have experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups.
  • Have experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities.
  • Have experience of successful working in an effective multi-disciplinary team.
  • Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners.
  • A good track record achieving quality targets.

Are you passionate about inspiring the next generation of tradespeople and reducing reoffending? We are looking for an enthusiastic Construction Teacher to join our vibrant prison education team at HMP Risley. In this role, you will bring industry skills to life by leading hands‑on sessions in topics such as health and safety, carpentry, brickwork, or plumbing. If you are ready to help learners build technical trade skills and achieve their potential in a supportive environment, we want to hear from you!

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Risley, working as a Construction Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Risley is a Category C Male prison, located in the Risely area of Warrington, Cheshire. The teams' aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification - or demonstrate a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Have relevant industry experience and/or qualifications (i.e. Bricklaying, Plastering, Joinery, Carpentry)
  • Achieve performance and quality targets
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting
  • Demonstrate positive team working
  • Have experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups
