Job summary

Novus, the LTE Group's prison education provider, invites applications for a Vocational Work-Based Learning Teacher at HMP Stafford. The role is permanent and part-time, 24 hours per week, delivering hands-on learning across Warehousing, Horticulture and Waste & Recycling.

You’ll support learners to build employability skills and manage assessments with DBS clearance required. The successful candidate will hold a recognised teaching qualification, Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy, and have

Qualifications

  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Have industry experience or relevant qualifications in one or more areas of the vocational curriculum.
  • Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets
  • Have willingness to engage with and produce accurate and timely reports
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have an ability to motivate and enthuse learners in the subject matter
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets
  • Advocate for and engage consistently in positive team working

Responsibilities

  • Deliver hands-on learning across vocational areas including Warehousing, Horticulture, and Waste and Recycling.
  • Create engaging, practical learning experiences to help learners gain skills for future employment.
  • Support learners to build skills, knowledge and behaviours required for progression.
  • Complete reports and maintain accurate records as required.

We’re looking for a creative, dedicated, and enthusiastic Vocational Work-Based Learning Teacher to join our vibrant team. We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Stafford, working as a Vocational Work-Based Learning Teacher. This position is offered on a permanent, part‑time basis, working 24 hours per week. Subjects covered under the Work Based Learning Vocational provision are Warehousing, Horticulture and Waste and Recycling.

Site Information

HMP Stafford, a notable Category C men’s prison, is situated in Stafford, Staffordshire. Established in 1793, the prison has evolved significantly over the centuries. Initially designed to house a variety of offenders, it has been reclassified multiple times to meet changing demands. The prison’s capacity is circa 750, with most inmates serving sentences ranging from two to four years. The prison offers extensive support and educational programs aimed at reducing reoffending rates.

Role Responsibilities

You will need patience, passion, flexibility and understanding in your approach to our learners, who have ‘hit a bump in the road’ but want to learn and improve.

To be successful in this role, you will need to:
