Job summary

TeacherActive is working with a specialist independent SEND school in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, seeking a SEND Learning Support Assistant to support pupils aged 8–18 with MLD, SLD and ASD. The role focuses on 1:1 and small-group help, reinforcing academic and personal development in a nurturing setting.

You will collaborate with teachers, therapists and other professionals to implement tailored education plans and deliver engaging activities, while promoting safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEND.
• Ability to adapt support to different learning needs.
• Calm, patient and empathetic approach when working with vulnerable young people.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with pupils and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with MLD/SLD/autism.
• Support pupils' academic, emotional, social and personal development.
• Assist teachers with differentiated and engaging learning activities.
• Support pupils with communication difficulties, sensory needs or emotional regulation.
• Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques as needed.
• Help pupils develop independence and practical life skills.
