Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA) for a specialist SEND school in Basildon, Essex. You will provide high-quality learning support and personal care to pupils aged 3-19 with SLD, PMLD, ASD and complex needs.

Working with teachers and therapists, you will deliver differentiated, sensory-based activities and support non-verbal pupils using PECS, Makaton and AAC where appropriate, while helping pupils develop independence and daily living skills.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEND (SLD/PMLD/ASD)
• Ability to provide personal care to pupils
• Familiarity with PECS, Makaton or AAC for communication
• Understanding of sensory processing and learning needs
• Willingness to move and handle pupils with training

Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SLD, PMLD, autism and complex needs.
• Supporting pupils’ academic, physical, social and emotional development.
• Assisting teachers with differentiated, sensory-based activities.
• Supporting non-verbal pupils using PECS, Makaton or AAC devices.
• Providing personal care, including toileting, changing and feeding.
• Assisting with moving and handling and using equipment as trained.
• Collaborating with teachers, therapists and other education professionals.
• Supporting EHCP targets and monitoring progress toward goals.
• Encouraging participation in classroom activities and enrichment opportunities.
