Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a specialist school in Chelmsford, Essex, starting after October half-term 2026. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, with a competitive daily rate and an emphasis on supporting learners with complex needs.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other staff to provide 1:1 and small-group support, promoting independence, communication, and life skills in a nurturing

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
• Patience, empathy and enthusiasm for supporting learners with complex needs.
• Understanding of autism, SLD, PMLD and communication difficulties.
• Willingness to support pupils with personal care when required.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
• Assist with communication needs, including non-verbal pupils and those using PECS, Makaton or communication aids.
• Support delivery of engaging, sensory-based and differentiated activities.
• Assist with personal care, feeding and mobility where required, following care plans.
• Help pupils develop independence, confidence, and everyday life skills.
• Support pupils with sensory processing and emotional regulation.
