Job summary

The Grand, Eastbourne is seeking a Commis Chef to join our friendly kitchen brigade and contribute to the high standards our guests expect across events, room service and the restaurant.

You will work with our Head Chef to develop basic techniques, maintain quality, stay calm under pressure and show a flexible, can-do approach in a busy kitchen.

Live-in accommodation is available, and meals are provided by our talented kitchen team as part of a supportive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Candidates should have basic cooking knowledge and a willingness to develop further.
• Ability to multitask across events, room service and restaurant environments.
• Positive, proactive approach and ability to work well in a busy kitchen.

Commis Chef Overview:

As part of the specialist Kitchen Brigade you will join our Head Chef in making the continuous improvements to ensure our menus always meet the 5 star standards expected by our guests. You will have a good understanding of basic techniques and a desire to further develop your skills. Due to the nature of the business, you may be serving events, room service and the restaurant at the same time, so you must be flexible, adaptable and remain calm under pressure.

Commis Chef Attributes/Experience:

• NVQ Level 2 in Professional Cookery or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year experience and exposure to a variety of menu styles
• Able to multitask and maintain quality levels at all times
• Work well as a part of a busy, close knit kitchen brigade
• Possess a "can do" attitude, being able to work on your own initiative as required
