Qualifications

Commercial Vehicle Technician

£34,234 + £3,425 shift allowance per annum

Hours: 45 hours per week (split shifts between 06:00 - 18:00)

An established, public-facing environmental and highways services organisation is seeking an experienced Commercial Vehicle Technician to join its professional maintenance team based in Weston-super-Mare.

This is a rare opportunity to work on a high-profile, essential fleet that supports waste collection, recycling, highways maintenance and emergency response services across North Somerset. Your work will directly support local communities and essential public services every single day.

About the Role

You'll play a vital role in keeping a diverse fleet of commercial vehicles, plant and specialist equipment operating safely, reliably and compliantly. Working within a well-equipped workshop environment, you'll be trusted to deliver high-quality maintenance and repairs to DVSA and manufacturer standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair commercial vehicles, plant and equipment to DVSA and manufacturer standards
  • Carry out inspections, MOT preparation, servicing and accurate completion of documentation
  • Diagnose faults, respond to breakdowns and coordinate recovery or external support when required
  • Promote safe working practices and ensure workshop compliance
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to apprentices
  • Maintain accurate records, keep the workshop organised and build strong internal customer relationships
What We're Looking For
  • Apprenticeship-trained with City & Guilds HGV Parts 1 & 2 or equivalent
  • Proven experience servicing, repairing and diagnosing faults on commercial vehicles
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, ideally within waste or municipal fleets
  • Ability to work independently, safely and effectively in a physically demanding role
  • LGV Class C / HGV Class 2 licence desirable but not essential
