Job summary

Masstemps is currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Setter / Operator to join a busy manufacturing company near the Walsall area. You will set, operate and programme CNC turning and milling machines to manufacture precision components.

You will read engineering drawings, select tooling, adjust offsets and carry out first-off inspections to ensure parts meet tight tolerances. The role involves grinding tasks and working to production deadlines in a hands-on, detail-focused environment.

Qualifications

Job description

Masstemps is currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Setter / Operator to join a well-established and busy manufacturing company based near the Walsall area.

THE JOB

Set, operate and programme CNC turning and milling machines to manufacture precision-engineered components.
Create and edit CNC programmes to suit job requirements, component specifications and engineering drawings.
Set up machines, select tooling and adjust cutting parameters to achieve accurate results.
Operate a range of grinding machinery, including cylindrical, centreless, surface and form grinding machines.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and tolerances.
Select appropriate cutting tools, grinding wheels and work-holding equipment for each job.
Carry out first-off inspections and in-process quality checks to ensure components meet specifications.
Use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, verniers, callipers and gauges.
Make programme offsets and machine adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
Manufacture both one-off components and small or medium production batches.
Identify and resolve machining issues, tooling problems and programme errors where possible.
Maintain machinery, tooling and equipment, reporting faults when necessary.

ABOUT YOU

Previous experience as a CNC Setter/Operator with part programming experience within a precision engineering environment.
Experience setting, operating and programming CNC turning and milling machines.
Practical experience with cylindrical, centreless, surface and form grinding machinery.
Ability to create, edit and optimise CNC programmes to manufacture components from engineering drawings.
Strong understanding of engineering drawings, geometric dimensions, tolerances and surface finish requirements.
Experience selecting tooling, setting workpieces and adjusting machine offsets.
Confident using precision measuring equipment to inspect components and maintain tight tolerances.
Experience manufacturing precision components to customer specifications.
Good knowledge of machining processes, cutting parameters and material characteristics.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and rectify machining issues.
High attention to detail, with a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality components.
Ability to work independently, manage workloads and meet production deadlines.
