Job summary

Masstemps Ltd is actively seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to join a busy manufacturing environment near Walsall. You will set up Star CNC lathes, prepare tooling, offsets and parameters for varied production runs, and ensure parts meet drawings and tolerances with in-process checks.

Reading engineering drawings, using micrometers/verniers for inspection, and maintaining quality while respecting health and safety procedures are essential. HAAS or Dugard centres knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• Experience operating CNC lathes in manufacturing or engineering.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Experience setting tooling, offsets and workholding.
• Skilled in using micrometers, verniers and gauges for inspection.
• Capable of meeting production targets and build plans.
• Knowledge of HAAS or Dugard centres desirable.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate Star CNC lathes to manufacture components to drawings and job specifications.
• Set tooling, work holding, offsets and machine parameters for different production runs.
• Operate CNC machines safely and efficiently to meet build plans and targets.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and job specifications.
• Carry out first-off and in-process inspections using micrometres, verniers and other measuring equipment.
• Make tooling and offset adjustments to maintain component quality.
• Monitor machine performance and identify issues affecting production, quality or cycle times.
• Change tools and make adjustments to maintain consistent production.
• Complete production paperwork, quality checks and traceability records.
• Work to health & safety and quality procedures.
• Assist with setting and operating HAAS and Dugard machining centres where required.
• Support other operators and contribute to maintaining an efficient production area.

THE JOB:

ABOUT YOU:

• Previous experience as a CNC Setter/Operator within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Experience operating CNC Lathes is essential.
• Experience setting tooling, offsets, workholding and machine parameters.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Experience using measuring equipment such as verniers, micrometers and gauges.
• Ability to make basic tooling and offset adjustments to maintain component quality.
• Experience working to production targets and build plans.
• Knowledge of HAAS and/or Dugard machining centres would be desirable.
• Good understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling and cutting conditions.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and quality.
