Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for a Clinical Service Lead to provide day-to-day operational management and clinical leadership to the Perinatal Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for line management of staff, performance management of services (quality, finance, HR and governance), and will have opportunities to lead on service development and quality improvement projects. The role requires experience in working with external partners and the energy and enthusiasm to work in a complex environment.
The service includes a multi-disciplinary team: Clinical Service Lead; Team Managers; Lead Consultant; Consultant Psychiatrists; Consultant Clinical Psychologist; Psychologists and Psychotherapists; Specialist Nurses; Nursery Nurses; Social Worker; Occupational Therapists; Peer Support Workers; Specialist Mental Health Midwife and administrative staff.
We welcome applications from individuals who may not have experience in Perinatal Services but can demonstrate transferable skills. This role is suitable for candidates who have been working at Band 7 and are looking to take the next step, or those seeking to expand experience in a community setting.
Responsibilities
- Lead and co-ordinate the clinicians and sub-teams who assess and review clients in multiple clinic venues across the service catchment, including maternity units at St George's Hospital, St Helier's Hospital and Kingston Hospital.
- Direct the three sub-teams with defined clinical remits (Wandsworth; Merton and Sutton; Kingston and Richmond) with shared Occupational Therapy and Social Work across all teams.
- Oversee the Perinatal Trauma and Loss Team (PTLT) delivering trauma-informed, holistic care and outreach to maternity services and primary care.
- Contribute to career progression and development opportunities, supporting staff to develop skills and gain experience through professional development.
- Communicate effectively with staff, partners and external stakeholders; ensure policies and procedures are understood and implemented; provide complex information to senior managers and partners as needed.
- Maintain strong relationships with service users, relatives, carers, the Trust and other statutory/voluntary agencies.
- Oversee regular review and updating of operational policies and contribute to service development, quality standards, and governance targets.
- Ensure safeguarding policies are adhered to; coordinate service reviews, audits and continuous improvement; lead community engagement and co-produced services for priority groups.
- Utilise integrated management information systems to manage resources; ensure accurate recording of clinical and patient management information (IAPTus and RiO as required); conduct skill mix reviews and budget discipline.
- Lead data analysis and reporting for monthly/quarterly performance to CCG and Trust as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Training & Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification
- Evidence of post-registration CPD relevant to the post
Desirable
- Professional management qualification at diploma level or above
- Project management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2 foundation)
- Post-graduate qualification in service improvement or healthcare leadership
Experience
- Experience at a senior clinical or management level; experience of managing a clinical team
- Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating services; service development and change management
- Experience in budgeting and managing finances
Desirable
- Experience of working in mental health; experience with integrated partnerships
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of management best practice in health settings; capability to lead service redesign and change
- Knowledge of safeguarding and clinical risk management; strong leadership and advisory abilities
- Ability to use information systems and to report effectively
