The role involves significant hands-on experience with PCI procedures, including chronic total occlusion techniques, under the mentorship of experienced cardiologists. Candidates should have a medical degree, current GMC registration, and a passion for interventional cardiology. This position offers the chance to work in one of the UK's busiest cardiac centres, contributing to advanced cardiac care.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Fellow in Interventional Cardiology to join the team at the West Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds General Infirmary.
The post will be a fixed‑term, 1‑year appointment commencing August 2026.
The Fellowship is designed for individuals who are post‑CCT or approaching CCT, with a subspecialty interest in interventional cardiology and complex coronary interventions including chronic total occlusion (CTO). It provides the skills required to become an independent PCI operator with high levels of complex PCI and CTO experience.

The department includes two inpatient wards (one acute admissions ward), a day‑case interventional ward, a day‑case radial‑lounge, a 6‑bed catheter laboratory suite and a 10‑bed coronary care unit. Cardiac MRI, adult congenital cardiology, paediatric and interventional paediatric cardiology, and adult and paediatric cardiac surgical services all operate on the same site.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest acute health providers in the UK, based in a fast‑growing, vibrant city in the North. The Cardio‑Respiratory Clinical Services Unit champions the Leeds Way values of accountability and empowerment, and the coronary and structural interventional service has a national and international reputation for excellence and innovation.
Location: West Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds General Infirmary. The cardiology department performs 2,200 PCI per annum, 1,100 of which are primary PCI. Core PCI team includes Dr Heeraj Bulluck, Dr Arka Das, Dr Sameer Kurmani, Dr Abdul Mozid, Dr Jennifer Rossington, Dr Murugu Veerasamy and Professor Stephen Wheatcroft. Four further interventionalists support acute service with specialist interests in structural intervention or research, and 11 visiting consultants provide out‑of‑hours coverage.
The Fellow will work closely with Dr Abdul Mozid and gain first‑operator experience in CTO PCI, familiarise with complex PCI equipment and intravascular imaging (IVUS, OCT). The Fellowship is focused on complex coronary intervention; structural programmes are not a primary focus.
