Job description
Clinical Fellow in Interventional Cardiology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Fellow in Interventional Cardiology to join the team at the West Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds General Infirmary.

The post will be a fixed‑term, 1‑year appointment commencing August 2026.

The Fellowship is designed for individuals who are post‑CCT or approaching CCT, with a subspecialty interest in interventional cardiology and complex coronary interventions including chronic total occlusion (CTO). It provides the skills required to become an independent PCI operator with high levels of complex PCI and CTO experience.

Leeds General Infirmary is the largest tertiary cardiac centre in the United Kingdom, serving a population of 2.8 million in West Yorkshire and a supra‑regional population of 5.8 million. The centre performs 2,500 PCI per annum, 1,100 of which are primary PCI, making it the busiest PPCI centre in the UK.

The department includes two inpatient wards (one acute admissions ward), a day‑case interventional ward, a day‑case radial‑lounge, a 6‑bed catheter laboratory suite and a 10‑bed coronary care unit. Cardiac MRI, adult congenital cardiology, paediatric and interventional paediatric cardiology, and adult and paediatric cardiac surgical services all operate on the same site.

Further enquiries are welcome by contacting: Dr Abdul Mozid, abdul.mozid@nhs.net.

Main Duties
  • Work closely with Dr Abdul Mozid, leading the highly regarded CTO PCI service at Leeds with 125‑150 cases per year and >90 % success rate using hybrid techniques.
  • Gain first‑operator experience in all hybrid CTO techniques and the CTO toolbox.
  • Participate fully in the PCI programme, completing patient management, operative meetings, research activities and conference presentations.
  • Perform approximately 500 PCI procedures during the term, with the majority as first operator.
  • No on‑call or general cardiology commitments attached; basic salary will be paid. Opportunities to support the St R on‑call rota may be offered if gaps arise, without interfering with fellowship commitments.
