Job summary

Gregory Distribution Ltd is recruiting a Class 1 Shunter in Wakefield to operate on a 4 on 4 off days shift from 06:00 to 18:00. The role includes shunting, loading/unloading, and daily safety checks, with evening and night premiums for eligible hours.

Applicants must hold UK Class 1 (CE) licence, Driver CPC, and Digital Tachograph Card. Training will be provided; excellent customer service and team collaboration are essential.

• Possess a current Driver CPC qualification and Digital Tachograph Card.
• Previous tug experience is advantageous; however, full training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Shunt, load, and unload trailers across the depot, ensuring safe and precise positioning.
• Assist with day-to-day yard operations to maintain a safe and efficient environment.
• Conduct daily vehicle safety checks using company tech and ensure roadworthiness.
• Coordinate with the transport team and provide updates on trailer movements and checks.
• Carry out local collections and deliveries when required, delivering a professional service.

Job description

Shift: 4 on 4 off Days, working 06:00hrs - 18:00hrs.

Excellent Earning Potential: £18.00 per hour, equating to £36,855 per annum, based on 11.25-hour shifts. In addition, you'll benefit from a £2.75 per hour night premium for all hours worked between 21:00hrs and 04:00hrs, boosting your earnings further. Overtime is paid at £18.00 per hour, with double-time pay (£36.00 per hour) for shifts worked on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day.

About the Role

As a Class 1 Shunter, you will:

• Shunt, load, and unload trailers across the depot, ensuring all units are positioned safely and accurately within designated bays and yard locations.
• Assist with day-to-day yard operations, helping to maintain a safe, efficient, and well-organised working environment.
• Conduct daily vehicle safety checks using company-issued technology, ensuring vehicles remain compliant, roadworthy, and ready for operation.
• Work closely with the transport team, providing clear and timely updates on trailer movements, vehicle checks, load status, and operational progress.
• Carry out local collections and deliveries when required, delivering a professional and reliable service.
• Take part in ongoing training and development to maintain industry knowledge, enhance skills, and stay aligned with company procedures.
• Complete shunter training and operate in line with company standards, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient yard movements at all times.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

• Must hold a valid UK Class 1 (CE) Driving Licence.
