Job summary

Health Recruit Network is recruiting a Registered Manager to lead the opening of a brand-new childrens home in Dudley, ensuring high-quality care and regulatory compliance from day one.

You will build systems, recruit and develop a team, and guide the home through Ofsted registration and its first inspection with strong leadership and safeguarding at the core.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) or equivalent.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) or equivalent.
  • Full UK driving licence, unless a reasonable adjustment is agreed.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Evidence of CPD in safeguarding, leadership and residential childcare.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Ofsted registration and opening of the new children20s home.
  • Develop the homes Statement of Purpose, policies, procedures and operational systems.
  • Establish a positive, trauma-informed culture from the outset.
  • Ensure compliance with the Children20s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements.
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child.
  • Leading care planning, placement planning, risk assessments and positive behaviour support.
  • Working with the placing authority, social workers, families, education, health and safeguarding teams.

Registered Manager - New Children's Home Dudley, West Midlands

Up to £55,000 per annum. Permanent | Full-time

We are recruiting an experienced Registered Manager to lead the opening and development of a brand-new children's residential home in Dudley. The home will provide a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment for one child with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) and complex trauma. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced children's residential care professional who wants to have a genuine influence on the culture, standards and practice of a new home from day one. You will take the lead in preparing the home for Ofsted registration, recruiting and developing the team, establishing systems and procedures, and ultimately overseeing the day-to-day operation of the home once registered.

About the Role

As Registered Manager, you will have overall responsibility for ensuring the home provides safe, consistent and high-quality care while meeting all regulatory requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading the Ofsted registration and opening of the new children's home.
  • Developing the home's Statement of Purpose, policies, procedures and operational systems.
  • Establishing a positive, stable and trauma-informed culture from the outset.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements.
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child.
  • Leading care planning, placement planning, risk assessments and positive behaviour support.
  • Working closely with the placing authority, social workers, families, education, health, safeguarding teams and other professionals.
  • Recruiting, inducting, supervising and developing the residential care team.
  • Ensuring safe staffing levels, effective rotas and robust on-call arrangements.
  • Maintaining high standards of recording, documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitoring the quality of care through audits, reviews and continuous improvement processes.
  • Working with the Responsible Individual and external professionals to prepare the home for inspection.
  • Leading the home through its first Ofsted inspection and implementing any resulting improvement actions.
  • Managing budgets, resources, staffing and the overall operational performance of the home.
  • Providing visible, consistent and supportive leadership to the team.
About You

You will need to be an experienced children's residential care professional with the qualifications and management experience required to take responsibility for an Ofsted-regulated children's home.

Essential
  • At least 2 years' experience within the previous 5 years in a role relevant to the residential care of children.
  • At least 1 year's experience supervising and managing staff working in a care role.
  • Experience working as a Registered Manager, Deputy Manager or senior leader within an Ofsted-regulated children's home.
  • Experience supporting children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, trauma, exploitation risks, disabilities or other complex needs.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and children's residential care practice.
  • Thorough understanding of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
  • Understanding of Ofsted requirements and inspection processes.
  • Experience with care planning, risk management, safeguarding, missing-from-care procedures and positive behaviour support.
  • Ability to recruit, lead, supervise and develop a residential childcare team.
  • Strong written, organisational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with social care, education, health and other multi‑agency professionals.
  • Ability to manage rotas, staffing, budgets, resources and competing operational priorities.
  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or an accepted equivalent qualification.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England), or an equivalent qualification accepted by the provider, or eligibility and commitment to complete the qualification within the required timeframe.
  • Evidence of relevant CPD in safeguarding, leadership and residential childcare.
  • Full UK driving licence, unless a reasonable adjustment can be agreed.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
