Job summary

DACHSER Ltd. in Dartford is seeking a Charter Operator to join our land transport team. You will provide cost‑effective road charter solutions, liaising with Sales, Cargo Plus, and dispatch colleagues across UK and Europe to meet customer requirements.

The role demands strong planning, commercial awareness, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced logistics environment. Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00, permanent full‑time contract; knowledge of European transport networks is highly

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to customer requests for charter services with cost-efficient transport solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs and maintain high quality standards and service.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive charter supplier database with reliable providers.
  • Build and manage supplier relationships to control costs and improve performance.
  • Ensure reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time; manage charter docs.
  • Identify opportunities to maximise profitability while maintaining service quality.
  • Perform administrative tasks: update shipment statuses, file PODs, process invoices, prepare quotations.
  • Monitor export documentation compliance to support smooth customs clearance.
  • Provide guidance on customs documentation requirements to minimize delays.
  • Complete Brexit-related administrative activities, including Government Gateway entries.
  • Communicate with internal departments across UK/Europe to coordinate efforts.
  • Support movement of freight by coordinating with stakeholders to meet customer needs.

Purpose Of the Role:

To provide effective road charter solutions in response to customer and internal department requests, including Sales, Cargo Plus, and European and UK dispatch teams. The role is responsible for sourcing cost‑effective and efficient transport solutions that maximise profit, while maintaining high standards of quality, service, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to customer requests for charter services, delivering cost‑effective and operationally efficient transport solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintaining high quality standards and excellent customer service at all times.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive charter supplier database, ensuring access to a wide range of reliable and cost‑effective service providers.
  • Build and manage strong supplier relationships to control costs, maximise service performance, and support long‑term sustainability.
  • Ensure all reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time, with charter documentation processed efficiently and maintained to a high standard.
  • Identify opportunities to maximise profitability while maintaining service quality and meeting customer expectations.
  • Carry out accurate administrative tasks, including updating shipment statuses, obtaining and filing Proofs of Delivery (PODs), processing invoices, and preparing customer quotations.
  • Monitor customer compliance with export documentation requirements to support smooth and error‑free customs clearance.
  • Provide guidance and assistance on customs documentation requirements, helping to resolve customs‑related issues and minimise delays to export shipments.
  • Complete Brexit‑related administrative activities, including entering information into Government Gateway systems and updating customs data on processed shipments.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments including Export Customer Service, Warehouse, Transport, Customs, and Sales teams, as well as colleagues across UK and European branch networks.
  • Support the efficient movement of freight by coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure customer requirements are met and service levels maintained.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Atleast 5 years' experience in a European Charter role, ideally within a large logistics organisation.
  • Good knowledge of European geography and transport networks.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of profitability within the charter market.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills and sound decision‑making ability.
  • A good understanding of the European charter sector and its operational requirements.
